Lions Eyeglasses

WANTED: Old eye glasses. The OBG Lions Club collects used eye glasses. They are recycled for use in both the local community and in third world countries where people cannot afford eyewear. There are drop-off boxes marked "Lions Recycled Glasses" throughout our community.

OBG Lions Support the Southeastern Guide Dog School: the "Gift of Mobility" means independence with the freedom to travel by oneself.

Local Support in the Community

The Lions support and help the people in the community obtain who are in need of assistance.

Local Charities: Funds are provided for needy individuals to obtain eye examinations and to assist in the cost of eyeglasses. This service also extends to hearing exams and hearing aids. Assist local residents as other needs arise.

Local Scholarships: Provide four (4) scholarships to deserving high school graduating seniors.

Local Food Bank: Provide funds to the local food bank for the purchase of staple food items for the needy.

Angel Flight: Provides free emergency transportation for the ill to get to hospitals or specialists.

Guide Dog Sponsorship: Full sponsorship of a guide dog for the visually impaired individual including the naming of a puppy and meeting the recipient. Coordinated through Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc

Hearing Dog Sponsorship: Full sponsorship of a hearing dog to assist and alert the hearing impaired.

District 35-O Hearing Project: Provides hearing exams and refurbished hearing aids to the needy. New hearing aids are purchased for children.

North Florida Lions Eye Foundation: Receives donor eyes and organs to be used for transplants. Conducts research to someday eliminate blindness.

Florida Lions Foundation: Provides funds for the needy to obtain expensive eye procedures such as cataract surgery, corneal transplants, etc. These funds are available to local Lion Clubs whose budgets fall short of providing the necessary assistance.

Conklin Center: Provide funds to assist multi-handicapped (one handicap being visually impaired) learn to function on their own.

New Vision for Independence: Provide funds to assist visually impaired individuals with Independent Living Skills training and classroom teaching of computer skills and Braille.

Braille Project: Transcribes books to tape or braille for the visually impaired.

Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc: Raises and trains guide dogs for the visually impaired and companion dogs for wheelchair bound individuals.

Lions Right to Sight Program: Eyeglasses collected throughout the year are processed and filed according to prescription. Glasses are then distributed to the needy.

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF): Provides food and clothing to victims of natural disasters. Also gives youth the tools to succeed through Lions Quest programs, empowers the disabled through vocational training, and promotes good health by equipping clinics and hospitals.

Disaster Relief: Provide monetary relief in times of natural or man-made disasters, either through LCIF or directly.

Operation ShoeBox: Voluntary organization whose purpose is to support our fighting men and women deployed overseas by sending packages containing a variety of necessities and treats.

Florida Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes (Camp Winona): Provides a positive camping experience while learning independence and self-discipline in the individuals approach to their condition and their approach to life.
